Flounder Fishing Tips

Some keys to success while fishing for flounders are
  • ***Make sure you use a leader because flounder have very sharp teeth. Or use 25lb mono line check the line for freys after every catch.
    *******LEADERS********
  • Leader make up
  • slipweight 1/4 to 1/2 oz above the hook about 6 to 12".
    weight-barrel swivel----------12" of line----------tiehookhere.
    *******BAIT*******
  • Use Live Bait (such as finger mullets or mud minnows) sometime even shiners will work.
  • Use plastic minnows or doa shrimps with fish attractant or tip the hook with shrimp.
    *******BAIT RETRIEVAL*******
  • Slowly move your bait accross the bottom stopping and waiting and then move your bait again. (you do not have to move it very far 6" to about a foot will do.
  • Wait about 30 to 60 seconds before moving the bait again.
    *******HOOK SETS*******
  • When you feel a bite do not set the hook if you do this you will almost always loose the fish.
Instead give him a bit of slack and let him sit there for a couple of minutes you can check to see if he is still there by pulling tight on your line and feeling for dead weight.
Just be patient after a minute or two if you still fell him then try setting the hook doing this will increase your flounder catch by about 90%.
    *******DO NOTS*******
  • Do not place your finger in the mouth of a flounder (if you like your fingers the way they look now)
A flounder can cause serious damage to you if they bite you!!

When you go fishing, please remember these words :
Remember the limit and release fish to keep the sport of fishing alive for future fishing generation to come.
Take only what you need and release the rest.

    DID YOU KNOW
A fish hook will completely disolve in a fishes mouth or stomach within 3 to 5 days. Cut the line on gut hooked fish you want to release rather than trying to dig the hook out. Their strong body acids will go to work and the fish will survive.
